[Outline of current research] 

I have been interested in solving the following problems:

  • Large scale video indexing, retrieval and mining using multi-modal analysis.
  • Mining and labeling important objects (e.g. faces, buildings, etc).
  • Mining new semantic concepts for indexing.
  • Semantic representation of image and video.
  • Efficient feature extraction and feature selection methods for classifying extremely high dimensional data.
  • Applications of machine learning (e.g. boosting, support vector machines) and clustering methods to multimedia indexing and retrieval.
  • Finding near-duplicates for redundancy elimanation and summarization.
  • Developing a unified framework for a semantic video search engine.

Since 2006, have been working on most of TRECVID' tasks such as BBC Rushes Summarization (ranked 2nd in 2007), High Level Feature Extraction (ranked 2nd out of 32 groups worldwide in 2007), semantic video search, and instance search (ranked 1st in 2010).
